Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer avoids is what Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
